This tour is Geddy and Alex playing the catalog with two people they trust. Anika has the guts to sit in that seat. Loren is here so the synths get played. Rush Radio is glad they’re on the bus.

Geddy and Alex only seriously tried one drummer. Anika. Jeff Beck’s camp raved about her. They brought her to Canada as an experiment, not an audition — and she stayed.
She studied Neil’s parts the hard way: the colors, the feel, the way he composed on the kit. A lot of players can hit the fills. Combining that with how these songs are supposed to feel is the job. She’s doing the job.
She is not Neil. She doesn’t pretend to be. That’s why this works.
Facts on Anika
Anika Nilles is from Aschaffenburg. She started drums at six in a family of drummers, then did the “serious” path first — social work, preschool — before going full-time on the kit in her late twenties.
Rush
Geddy and Alex brought her to Canada as an experiment, not an audition. She learned the catalog from scratch — feel, colors, the way Neil organized the kit. She is not Neil. She doesn’t pretend to be. That’s why she’s on the Fifty Something tour.

Loren Gold
For fifty years Geddy covered bass, voice, and a pile of keyboards at once. On this tour the layers get a dedicated pair of hands. Loren Gold — The Who for a dozen years, Chicago after that — is that pair of hands.
He’s on synths, piano, and some backing vocals so Signals, Grace Under Pressure, and the rest can sit in the room instead of on a trigger. Geddy asked him in. That’s enough.

Facts on Loren
Loren Gold is the keyboardist now in Rush’s touring lineup. He came up the hard way: arenas with The Who, years beside Roger Daltrey, then a seat in Chicago. Geddy and Alex brought him in as a veteran who already knows how a big catalog has to feel live.
Roger Daltrey
Before The Who, he was already on the road with Daltrey — 2009. That’s where the chair started. Daltrey solo, Tommy with orchestra, the same band that later stood behind the farewell run. Gold learned those songs from the singer, not from a chart.
